6 ways kitchen design trends will evolve

Kitchen design trends are always changing; designs that clients want in their kitchen renovations change from one year to the next. Experts predict that six changes will be more prominent in the next decade regarding kitchen renovations.

Appliance garages are expected to take over kitchen design trends in the next decade.

“[Appliances] have been increasingly moving toward being less visually dominant in kitchens and they will continue to do so,” said Gabriela Narvaez, general contractor and founder of Guild Properties. “The goal is for them to be fully convenient and not a main character in the kitchen.”

Today’s kitchens have already moved away from an all-white aesthetic. Gena Kirk, vice president of the design studio at KB Home, said that there will be a shift to an even more personality-driven environment filled with darker colors.

“Natural wood cabinetry in tones like walnut and dark oak is making a strong return, often paired with layered neutrals and deeper accent colors that create a space that feels inviting,” said Kirk.
